Would you like to conduct your research and write in your area of interest, while interacting with policymakers in Washington and Wilson Center staff and other scholars in residence? If ‘yes’, then join the international competition for a 9-month residential fellowship!
Wilson Center’s Fellowship Program
The Wilson Center invites scholars, practitioners, journalists, and public intellectuals, to join the program.
The fellowships support policy-relevant, non-advocacy proposals addressing key challenges confronting the United States and the world.
As a Fellow you are affiliated with one or more of the Center’s programs/projects and are encouraged to interact with policymakers, Wilson Center staff, and other scholars working on similar research topics.
Fellows are provided with:
- A furnished office, accessible daily.
- Conference rooms, a reference library, and dining facilities in the heart of Washington, D.C.
- Loan privileges with the Library of Congress and access to digital resources.
- A Windows-based personal computer and part-time research assistant intern.
- Assistance in finding housing in the Washington, D.C. area.
The fellowship offers a $90,000 stipend for the nine-month term. However, fellows are responsible for their own health insurance and travel expenses.

Eligibility Criteria
The Wilson Center’s Fellowship Program is open to international applicants. To apply, you must meet the following criteria:
- If you are a citizen/permanent resident of a country outside the United States, you must hold a valid passport and be eligible for a J-1 visa.
- As an academic candidate, you must be at the post-doctoral level and have published a book or monograph beyond your Ph.D. dissertation.
- As a practitioner or policymaker, you should have an equivalent level of professional achievement.
Application details
Before applying, make sure you have the following documents ready (written in English):
- a current CV;
- a list of your publications that includes exact titles, names of publishers, dates of publication, and status of forthcoming publications;
- a Project Proposal (don’t exceed five single-spaced typed pages, using 12-point type);
- a bibliography for the project that includes primary sources and relevant secondary sources;
- two letters of reference.
