THOTCON 2017

THOTCON is a small venue hacking conference based in Chicago IL, USA. This is a non-profit, non-commercial event looking to provide the best conference possible on a very limited budget.

It was started as an idea in late 2009, by a group of Chicago hackers who wanted to start a local low-cost con.

Since Chicago has a great hacking and security scene in small pockets the founders wanted to get everyone together at a real conference where attendees don’t have to travel and spend a ton of money.

Once you attend a THOTCON event, you will have experienced one of the best information security conference experiences combined with a uniquely casual and social experience.

THOTCON 0x8 is the eighth incarnation of this event and will be held on Thursday and Friday, May 4th and 5th, 2017.

It will be held at a location only to be disclosed to attendees and speakers during the week before the event.

Hacker brew contest

This is a GOLD (lifetime) badge contest.

Hackers like beer. Some like to brew their own.

Brew a special beer for THOTCON and bring a bomber with you to enter in the Hacker Brew contest – a special session during lunch on Day 2.

The event is now considered a Sanctioned BJCP Competition!

Note: You will be limited to bringing 1 bottle (22oz) of beer to the con.

Also Note: This contest is only open to THOTCON attendees.

Drinking game

This is NOT a GOLD (lifetime) badge contest.

c7five will secretly select a magic word corresponding to each talk.

The audience will learn the word but the speaker will not.

Every time the speaker says the magic word, you drink.

Everyone wins.

All Speakers will be given free admission to the conference as well as one free attendee badge (to bring a guest). They will also have access to the THOTCON VIP Lounge. This means you will have access to free food and drink and all day. Oh yeah, there is also the Speaker’s Dinner the night before the con that you will be invited to as well. At the dinner, you will also get some specially branded THOTCON swag.

This year the conference will have 5 different areas:

* LOC://SR – Track 1

• This is where the full-length talks are located.
• There will be rows of chairs with tables and rows without.
• There will be some power and access to the tubes.
• You can buy good food right outside this area.

* LOC://IB – Track 2

• This is where the track 2 talks will be held. These are the turbo talks.
• There will be rows of chairs.
• There will be some power and access to the tubes.

* LOC://SP – Track X

• This is where the track X demos will be held. These are the tech demos.
• There will be lounge seating and screens.
• There will be some power and access to the tubes.

* LOC://SOUTH.LOFT – BarCon

• There will be drinking in here.
• There will be music and wubs.
• There will be Lulz.
• There will be chairs and tables.
• There will be power and access to the tubes.
• There will be video games.
• You do not have to STFU in here!
