The Swiss Confederation opens the doors of its world-class educational institutions to international scholars and artists through the prestigious Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships.
Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2025-2026
Administered by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), these awards offer a unique opportunity for young researchers and artists to advance their academic and creative careers in Switzerland.
Research Scholarships
The research scholarships are designed for postgraduate researchers from any academic discipline who hold at least a master’s degree.
These scholarships support researchers who wish to pursue research or further studies at the doctoral or post-doctoral level at all Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, and the two federal institutes of technology, as well as the four research institutes.
The scholarship begins on 1 September 2025, for a maximum of 12 months. It provides a monthly stipend of CHF 1,920, which covers the living expenses of one person.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must have completed a master’s degree or equivalent by 31 July 2025 (except for ETH Zurich, where the deadline is 30 June 2025).
- Applicants must be born after 31 December 1989.
- A detailed research proposal, including a timeframe.
- A letter of support from an academic host professor in Switzerland, including their short CV.
Art Scholarships
Aspiring artists are offered a pathway to pursue a Master’s degree in the arts at one of Switzerland’s renowned conservatories or universities of the arts. These scholarships are available to students from select countries with which Switzerland has reciprocity agreements for art scholarships.
The scholarship starts on 1 September 2025 and lasts for 12 months, with a possible extension of up to 21 months depending on the Master’s program. A monthly stipend of CHF 1,920 is provided, covering living expenses for one person.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent by 31 July 2025.
- Applicants must be born after 31 December 1989.
- The scholarship is not valid for a second Master’s degree.
