Science by Women Fellowship 2024
Aligned with its mission to drive Africa’s development through the empowerment of women, the Women for Africa Foundation (FMxA) is proud to announce the launch of the 9th Edition of the SCIENCE BY WOMEN program.
This initiative aims to enhance African women’s leadership in scientific research and technology transfer while also bolstering the capabilities of research centres in their respective home countries.
Enabling African women researchers and scientists to tackle the great challenges faced by Africa
Women’s lives are significantly affected by the repercussions of uncontrolled development; however, social, structural and economic barriers limit their capacity to tackle the great challenges faced by the continent.
Addressing the gender disparities in science and technology is crucial for the overall development of Africa’s population, both in the public and private sectors.
The imbalance in this domain has far-reaching consequences for African countries’ sustainable and balanced growth. Therefore, closing this gap is essential for achieving long-term progress and fostering equal and inclusive development.
How does the Science by Women program work?
The Science by Women program will fund six-month visiting senior research fellowships for experienced African women researchers in different international research centers of excellence based in Spain.
The preferred areas of research include:
- Health and Bio-medicine
- Energy, Water, and Climate Change
- Sustainable Agriculture and Food Safety
Each of the partnering centres will host one senior woman researcher for a six-month fellowship. The researcher must hold a PhD. Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
Successful candidates will have access to the following benefits
- Return flight from their center of origin to the host institution
- Living allowance of 2,400 Euros (before 24% taxes)per month to cover accommodation, personal expenses, and health and occupational accident insurance coverage
