Premier’s Coding Challenge 2020

The Premier’s Coding Challenge is an annual statewide initiative for all Queensland students in Year 3 to Year 10. The Challenge aims to encourage an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Queensland students.

Interacting online has a number of risks and it can be difficult to be sure of someone’s real identity or intentions

Anyone who uses the internet is a potential target of cyber-criminals who may attempt to take advantage of users by stealing their private information or money.

In order to be safe, it’s always a good idea to avoid downloading something you’re not sure of or visiting a site that appears suspicious.

Who should apply?

This challenge aims to help keep Queenslanders secure online by creating an interactive and innovative digital solution to raise awareness of cybersecurity.

Support your solution by providing tips and links to further information. Your solution could be an app, a game, an animation, or a website, and should be visually appealing, informative and help Queenslanders to be cyber secure.

Entries will be assessed against a set of criteria by a panel of official judges.

Students can enter as individuals or as a pair, in one of 8 categories. Winners receive prizes (PDF, 65KB) of coding and robotic kits (total prize pool $10,000).

How to apply

Primary (Years 3–6) entrants will submit an interactive game, app or animation:

• Create an interactive digital solution that educates users about cybersecurity
• Create a video explanation of your digital solution

Secondary (Years 7–10) entrants will submit an innovative game, app or website:

• Create an innovative digital solution that could be developed into a fully functional application to raise cybersecurity awareness
• Create a video evaluation of your digital solution.
