Would you like to build cross-cultural understanding, and develop skills in diplomacy, conflict resolution, and leadership? The Hansen Leadership Institute (HLI) is accepting applications for the 2025 Summer Institute. This fully-funded program is a unique opportunity for young leaders worldwide!

Hansen Leadership Institute Summer Program 2025

The Hansen Summer Program provides a hands-on leadership training experience designed to equip you with the tools to foster peace and resolve conflicts in your communities. As a participant, you will gain insights into the:

• International relations and diplomacy
• Leadership principles and practice
• Conflict resolution and peacebuilding strategies
• Cross-cultural communication and cooperation

The Program is fully funded by the Fred J. Hansen Foundation and includes:

• International airfare for participants
• Room and board
• All program-related expenses

Participants are only responsible for the cost of obtaining a passport and any personal spending money during the program.

Eligibility criteria

All applying students need to:

• Be upper-division undergraduate or graduate students (ages 20-25) with a background in international relations, diplomacy, or related fields.
• Have demonstrated leadership potential in community, national, or regional activities.

U. S Students

• must submit a recommendation form from a community organization or service group to verify leadership experience.

International Students (from zones of conflict and/or social strife)

• Must have an academic advisor verify English proficiency and hold a valid international passport (U.S. visa required if necessary).
• Preference will be given to applicants who have never visited the U.S., though all qualified students are encouraged to apply.

Application deadlines

• International Applicants: Friday, January 15, 2025, by 11:30 PM Pacific Time
• U.S. Applicants: Monday, March 10, 2025, by 11:30 PM Pacific Time
