Are you an academic, independent scholar, or creative writer seeking a transformative research experience? The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at The New York Public Library offers an extraordinary international fellowship program for 2025–2026.
This prestigious fellowship provides an exceptional opportunity for scholars and writers to advance their projects with direct access to the world-renowned Stephen A. Schwarzman Building collection.
2025–2026 Cullman Center Fellowship
The Cullman Center selects 15 Fellows annually for a nine-month term, from September through May. As a Fellow, you will receive a stipend of $85,000. You will also get an office with a computer and full access to the Library’s extensive physical and electronic resources. This fellowship is a full-time commitment, requiring You to work primarily at the Schwarzman Building. Moreover, each Fellow gives a talk on their current work-in-progress during lunch to other Fellows and various guests.
Joining this opportunity will give you a chance to join a vibrant intellectual community. Throughout the fellowship term, you will participate in an ongoing exchange of ideas within the Center and in public forums across the Library.
Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship seeks top-quality writing and is open to academics, creative writers, and independent scholars, including journalists, novelists, playwrights, poets, translators, and visual artists working on book projects.
Foreign nationals who are conversant in English are encouraged to apply. However, the fellowship is not open to individuals seeking funding for degree-related research. The Center welcomes applications from diverse candidates across various fields and project types.
The Fellowship does not accept applications from New York Public Library staff members, their partners, or from individuals active on the Library’s Board of Trustees, Board Advisory Committees, or Library Council.
