I wanted to focus this post on something that I feel strongly about. Deciding to leave the office and see something different.
Now you’re probably a bit confused so let me explain.
In our ever-changing world that moves at a million miles a minute, we need to take breaks. We all know that. Not just 15-minute coffee breaks or the good old fashion lunch break, but we need to get away from our normal surroundings.
I feel it’s important for all of us to get out of the office, desk, or chair we report to every day.
By going somewhere different to work for a single day a week, weekend, or a few weeks provides a refreshing recharge.
Where managers get it wrong
It baffles me when I hear about companies that don’t allow their employees to work remotely when all they do is sit at a desk looking at their computer every day.
If you don’t trust your employee to work from home doing what they do at the office, you shouldn’t have hired them!
Plain and simple.
But I know it isn’t that plain and simple because lots of managers or owners just don’t trust their employees and need to be able to watch them every day.
That’s unfortunate because they are only hurting themselves and the business by not choosing to be more flexible.
The world is changing and everything is becoming more mobile and adaptive. Employees or yourself as an entrepreneur should not have to be in one exact location every day.
If you do then you need to wake up and let your employees get some air. Literally.
Recent studies
Tonnes of studies are coming out mentioning that most office workers sit too much throughout the day and we’re basically slowly killing ourselves.
That’s kind of scary if you ask me.
I know I sit too much and I’m trying to combat this through standing more frequently throughout the day.
I recently had a few trips for family and personal reasons the past few weeks and noticed it was what I needed. Being away from the normal home office recharged me. Now I’m ready to continue the hustle even harder.
This is why I feel it’s important no matter who you are just to get away and do something other than working all day in the same place.
What you should do about it
Ask your boss to work from home once per week
Go take your vacation time that you have saved up.
It doesn’t matter what your position within the company is. You deserve some time away or a place to work from that gives you a different view.
Being in a different place gives us another perspective that can spur new ideas.
There are so many positives that can come from stepping away from the office like increased morale, stress reduction, sense of gratitude, and an overall boost in productivity when you return.
You made it this far in the post so it’s time for you to get out of here. Go on a vacation or do something you’ve been wanting to do for a while.
I think you will thank me when you return tanned and relaxed. Ready to tackle the next business challenge.
Bon Voyage! Let me know how it went in the comments below!
