Eligibility: citizen of a WTO member, between 18 and 30 years of age
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is seeking exceptional young individuals to join the Young Trade Leaders Programme. Could this be you? Do you recognize how trade can benefit both people and the planet?
Young Trade Leaders Programme 2024
During the program, you can contribute to the WTO mission with your perspectives and innovative ideas.
Moreover, as a Young Trade Leader, you will have the opportunity to:
- understand the workings of the WTO and international trade
- publish articles, blogs, podcasts and social media content on trade-related topics
- attend an in-person one-day training programme at the WTO in Geneva
- contribute to the Public Forum 2024
- benefit from existing WTO training programmes
- benefit from WTO Secretariat advice and mentoring
- receive support when organizing WTO-related activities in your home country
Eligibility criteria
To apply for the program you must have a strong interest in international trade and meet the following criteria:
- Be between 18 and 30 years of age
- Be a citizen of a WTO member
- Not affiliated with the WTO, nor have a relative who is currently WTO-affiliated
- Have a good level of written and spoken English – knowledge of French or Spanish will be considered an asset
- Be able to fully commit throughout the one-year program (July 2024-June 2025)
- Be diplomatically oriented, with a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, willing to foster understanding of trade issues and promote constructive dialogue

Application process for the Young Trade Leaders Programme
If you wish to apply, please submit your application to YTL@wto.org, and attach the following files
- Your current Resume/CV;
- A video (2 to 3 mins) in which you introduce yourself, and explain the impact you wish to achieve as a Young Trade Leader;
- A written contribution (300 words maximum) that answers the following question: What does trade mean for you?
Short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview in July 2024.
