WORK2019 Conference

The WORK2019 theme ‘Real Work in the Virtual World’ calls for explorations, analyses and discussions on the complexities of the current work.

In recent years work and working life have increasingly become characterized by features such as projectification, short-termism and emphasis on technologies. These features easily assume global similarities in ways of organizing work.

Yet, research shows that this is not the case. The rise of the global platform economy, and with it, the growth of gigs and tasks as work as well as the assumed entrepreneurialism among highly skilled professionals and professions all give reason to explore, challenge and analyze the recent changes in the work, and their local, regional, national and global boundaries, similarities and differences.

Examining real work in the virtual world extends to the meanings and contents of work, organizations of work, the enabling technologies and the blurring boundaries between the public sector and private companies.

Venue – Finlandia Hall

The conference will be held in Helsinki, at the Congress Wing at the Finlandia Hall. Some sessions are held at the National Museum of Finland, right across the Finlandia Hall.

Finlandia Hall is located in a park on Töölönlahti Bay in the centre of Helsinki, address Mannerheimintie 13c, only 1,5 kilometres from the main bus station and 1 kilometre from the main railway station. It is easily accessed from Helsinki Airport. Tram and bus stops can be found right in front of the building, and the hall is only a short walk from the city centre. Visitors are also welcome to use the car parks near Finlandia Hall.
